Episode Highlights

Where Are We Right Now?

  • The coronavirus is shutting down much of the world. A visualization of this is the US economic downturn in 2008, which Tim talks about in detail in the podcast.
  • Two COVID-19 schools of thought: (a) people who insist it's a conspiracy theory; (b) people who are operating in a lot of fear and panic.
  • The reality: Some people are sick and dying, and some are going to be impacted financially by the situation.
  • Tim believes that everything is going to be okay, but we also have to acknowledge all of those realities.

How Did We Get Here?

  • The first case of this coronavirus was detected in Wuhan, China, in late December of 2019 and has since spread rapidly.
  • We thought it was a concern of another country, and it wasn't going to impact us much—we were wrong.
  • The government has set travel restrictions, canceled events, and establishments have shut down. Tim talks more about this ripple effect in the podcast.
  • We all learned the term “social distancing.”

How Do We Make Sense of Where We Are?

  • God is sovereign, but God didn’t bring any of this on to us. We’re just in a world where a lot of stuff happens—a fallen world.
  • Everything will eventually be okay. However, we need to operate with wisdom.
  • We need to learn from experiences or mistakes we’ve made. Likewise, we need to help each other as much as we can.

COVID-19 and the Economy

  • Where we are now doesn't remind him of the major financial turmoil in the past. People in the United States are people of great faith in general.
  • However, we’re still facing something we’ve never seen before.
  • Money is not accelerating and moving through the system.
  • Unless we get tested and people get taken care of, only then can we know for sure what’s going to happen.

The Call to Action

  • We are indeed going to be negatively impacted by this—individually and culturally.
  • The big call to action would be a renewal of faith. Strengthen your faith.
  • The government, organizations, and businesses are essential. But put your faith in the Heavenly Father that created us.

What’s Next for Culture and Society?

  • Some people might consider it negative, but it can be positive. How? In a way, we’ll put less emphasis on sports, celebrities, and universities—which put people in incredible debt.
  • We can make some shifts in our society, even in religion and church.
  • The way we do churches in first-world countries is different from the scriptural foundation of the way the church was designed.
  • The mobile workforce is powerful. We can hope that it'll be a byproduct of what we see with culture and society.

The Bottomline

  • It's time to reassess and evaluate what's really important to us.
  • What relationships are meaningful? What's essential for us from a spiritual standpoint, how we live, function, and operate?
  • Right now, there is an excellent opportunity to connect digitally. But after this, we may also have a greater appreciation for social interaction.
  • Maybe it’ll help us live a simpler life.
  • We need new types of leaders to emerge; we need a change in our political arena.
“I am very hopeful that a new type of leader will step up and emerge from this. And, really, what I hope is that we develop a new normal, that we focus on what's important.” - Click Here to Tweet This

Focus on Yourself

  • If you need help, ask for it. Try not to get overwhelmed or discouraged.
  • It's vital to nourish your soul. Watch what you're reading, what you're watching, and the other media you consume.
  • Get things done—be productive.

Focus on Others

  • Reach out to people—communicate, and check-in with them.
  • Use social media for good. Use it to connect with people or to put some good out there in the world.
  • Don’t let the negative things in the social media rabbit hole consume you.

What’s Next for Us

  • We don’t know how long this will last and whose business will get the most impact.
  • What's happening in the present is a great time to evaluate where your business is.
  • Look at where you’re spending money.
“I believe that so many people are going to get witty inventions and ideas and clever and creative things. And you never would have done that if we weren't forced to think differently—if we weren't forced out of our comfort zone.” - Click Here to Tweet This
