Ron Cool:

you're not willing to forgive yourself and you're not

Ron Cool:

surrendering yourself to God's will.

Ron Cool:

And you're trying to figure it out all by yourself.

Ron Cool:

And if you don't let go of all of that, you're just going to be stuck or you're

Ron Cool:

going to find yourself repeating the same thing over and over again, which I did.

Ron Cool:

Oh,

Tim Winders:

What does it take to transform life's challenges into a

Tim Winders:

beacon of hope and leadership for others?

Tim Winders:

Welcome to Seek, Go Create, where today's guest, Ron Kuhl, brings a unique blend

Tim Winders:

of family values, spiritual guidance, and entrepreneurial spirit as a dedicated

Tim Winders:

husband, father, and the visionary behind the New Path, New You podcast,

Tim Winders:

Ron leads by example, inspiring men to embrace their roles in their families,

Tim Winders:

workplaces, and communities with faith, New You podcast is brought to

Tim Winders:

you And purpose, Ron, welcome to seat.

Tim Winders:

Go create.

Ron Cool:

Oh, thank you so much for having me.

Ron Cool:

Thanks for the introduction.

Tim Winders:

You and I've had a brief chat a while back, man.

Tim Winders:

We connected well and loved it and said, man, we need to talk

Tim Winders:

more with the microphone going.

Tim Winders:

So here we are.

Tim Winders:

And I gave you a slight warning on this and we're both

Tim Winders:

excited about this question.

Tim Winders:

So let's start this way.

Tim Winders:

Somebody asked Ron, what do you do?

Tim Winders:

What's your answer?

Tim Winders:

When somebody asks you that.

Ron Cool:

Gosh, that is, as soon as you told me that question, I was like,

Ron Cool:

man, that is the hardest question.

Ron Cool:

And it's like, what is your elevator pitch?

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

But it's such a, it's a, it's a unique question because it kind

Ron Cool:

of depends who I'm talking to.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

And so for the longest time I had two different versions of me

Ron Cool:

and now it's okay, I just want everything to be very singular.

Ron Cool:

So for me, My mission is to help men become spiritual leaders in their family

Ron Cool:

and actually, actually lead their family well and not lose their family because

Ron Cool:

I found myself a while back in that spot and God really Slap me across the

Ron Cool:

face, if you will, to get my attention.

Ron Cool:

And in the past I've helped people launch podcasts.

Ron Cool:

I'm very passionate about that, but now it's really turning that passion

Ron Cool:

to help Christians launch podcasts.

Ron Cool:

And, I enjoy doing that.

Ron Cool:

but for me, it's about leading men.

Ron Cool:

I lead a men's ministry at my church and and helping them really understand

Ron Cool:

who God's calling them to be in their families and it's a lot different

Ron Cool:

than what society tells you to

Tim Winders:

All right.

Tim Winders:

So you opened up the store.

Tim Winders:

So I'm going to go through it.

Ron Cool:

go for

Tim Winders:

said you, you used to give two different responses.

Tim Winders:

Let's go back in time and tell me when it was that if someone asked you what

Tim Winders:

you do and give me the two responses that you gave, because we, we kind

Tim Winders:

of uncover a bunch of stuff here.

Tim Winders:

We like the journey and things like that.

Tim Winders:

So tell me old Ron or Ron before you were cool or something like that.

Tim Winders:

I don't know.

Tim Winders:

what was

Ron Cool:

before I was cool.

Ron Cool:

I wasn't born.

Ron Cool:

So that that's that one's easy, but

Tim Winders:

thing and I want the audience because the audience is going,

Tim Winders:

is this guy's name really Ron cool.

Tim Winders:

And yes, it's a name that you were given at birth.

Tim Winders:

Correct.

Ron Cool:

That is correct.

Ron Cool:

Try ordering something online.

Ron Cool:

It's not as cool, quote unquote, as you would think it is.

Ron Cool:

um, but All right,

Tim Winders:

back up, back up.

Tim Winders:

Give me the, give me the, the two, the two headed Ron answer for what you do and

Tim Winders:

tell me roughly when it would have been,

Ron Cool:

okay, that's super easy.

Ron Cool:

So it was about.

Ron Cool:

Almost four and a half, five years ago.

Ron Cool:

And there was, there was, there was like a home run, which was a totally

Ron Cool:

different person than people saw outside.

Ron Cool:

And then there was the, at work Ron or the entrepreneur Ron,

Ron Cool:

which was extremely driven.

Ron Cool:

and if people ask me what I did, I helped them, increase their

Ron Cool:

visibility, traffic and sales.

Ron Cool:

It was really simple.

Ron Cool:

I, I created an agency around that and.

Ron Cool:

It was driven money.

Ron Cool:

It was to make money.

Ron Cool:

And that's what my focus was.

Ron Cool:

And I, my problem is I am a, I'm a workaholic and that

Ron Cool:

was a lot of fun for me.

Ron Cool:

So I said whatever I needed to say to get people to look

Ron Cool:

at it in their frame of mind.

Ron Cool:

So I can chameleon to whatever.

Ron Cool:

Someone needed to hear to get them to understand they needed X

Ron Cool:

product to help them with their visibility trafficking and sales in,

Ron Cool:

in their entrepreneurial journey.

Ron Cool:

Um, and I took a lot of credit for that.

Ron Cool:

I took all the credit for that.

Ron Cool:

And, fast forwarding to who I am now, God really was showing me like, if

Ron Cool:

you look back, if you look back at that journey, there was never an ad.

Ron Cool:

There was never, Anything we did to get a client, clients came to us and those

Ron Cool:

clients were all faith based Christian entrepreneurs and I took all the credit

Ron Cool:

and never gave credit to God and he asked me to shut that down, right?

Ron Cool:

And by shutting that down, I had to really focus on who I was

Ron Cool:

because my identity was that guy.

Ron Cool:

My identity was that Ron cool and that identity.

Ron Cool:

I even, I would get confused at home.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

And then I would find myself selling my wife into an idea, right?

Ron Cool:

And it wasn't like I meant to do it.

Ron Cool:

It was just, that's who I became.

Ron Cool:

And it's funny because on the journey I had to explain to my wife, Hey, who I was.

Ron Cool:

I created a persona of who I thought everyone wanted me to

Ron Cool:

be probably in eighth grade.

Ron Cool:

Like it's not a small, short ask.

Ron Cool:

It was.

Ron Cool:

This is who I needed to be to become popular.

Ron Cool:

This is who I needed to be, to be the most liked person.

Ron Cool:

This is who I needed to be to climb the corporate ladder.

Ron Cool:

It didn't matter, but I was never just who God asked me to be.

Tim Winders:

did you have a relationship with him growing along or were, were you,

Tim Winders:

were you, would you just plug in and all when it was, when it was convenient or

Tim Winders:

when you thought it needed to happen?

Ron Cool:

I think it's funny because, God, God is really, we just had a small

Ron Cool:

group and they're like, okay, was God really like trying to talk to you or

Ron Cool:

get your attention up into that point?

Ron Cool:

And what's funny is prior to meeting my wife, Um, I did not have a relationship,

Ron Cool:

he used her to bring me to him and she's always made me a better person.

Ron Cool:

When we first, when we first started dating, like she, she's

Ron Cool:

very, very much, Very Christian.

Ron Cool:

Let's just put it that way.

Ron Cool:

She knows the Bible.

Ron Cool:

She can spit verses like that.

Ron Cool:

I, I cannot, I could roundabout say something, but it's like

Ron Cool:

first John 15, whatever.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

She knows it.

Ron Cool:

And when we started dating, she's like, Hey, our foundation

Ron Cool:

has to be rooted in God.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, okay, so it's like our third or fourth date, we went to go get

Ron Cool:

new Bibles and we're at the Bible store.

Ron Cool:

I was like, Hey, why don't you just put your new name on it?

Ron Cool:

Cause you know how you can engrave it.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

It's like third date, third date.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, just put your new name on it.

Ron Cool:

And she looks at me, she goes, really?

Ron Cool:

I go, you want it to last forever, right?

Ron Cool:

You don't want to just use it for a season.

Ron Cool:

And so she put Rachel Coole on her Bible, right?

Ron Cool:

But, we, we drew very close to God.

Ron Cool:

we got married and we were getting really close, but the enemy loves to go

Ron Cool:

where You know, to break the unity and, and he loves that and I fell away, we

Ron Cool:

moved, we had a great church in Indiana.

Ron Cool:

We moved back to Colorado and we were in another church that just

Ron Cool:

had the wrong attitude about it.

Ron Cool:

And so I disconnected myself from it.

Ron Cool:

And once I disconnected myself from it, I became who I was before I got married.

Ron Cool:

It was, it was like, Oh, That's an easy fix, right?

Ron Cool:

then, we, going

Ron Cool:

along, going almost,

Tim Winders:

I want to pause you.

Tim Winders:

I want to pause you real quick here because this is, this is what came to me.

Tim Winders:

So I'm going to ask it here before we get too far down the road.

Ron Cool:

sure, sure, go for it.

Tim Winders:

someone says something like that and, and truthfully,

Tim Winders:

Ron, you're telling a lot of mine and my wife's story too.

Tim Winders:

I didn't ask her to put her name on a Bible.

Tim Winders:

I was going to ask you if that was your proposal.

Tim Winders:

I'm going, that's an interesting proposal.

Tim Winders:

Do you want to, do you want to buy a Bible and put my last name on it?

Tim Winders:

I'm.

Ron Cool:

right,

Tim Winders:

Trying to think if that's good or not.

Tim Winders:

So my wife in our dating process asked me about my spiritual walk.

Tim Winders:

And I was in some philosophy class at the time at Georgia tech.

Tim Winders:

And I kind of gave her a flippant, not the correct answer.

Tim Winders:

She didn't like the answer.

Tim Winders:

And so I had to get back in sales and pitch mode, which to me, you seem like a

Tim Winders:

pretty good sales pitch guy too, from what I've heard, even in the few times we met.

Ron Cool:

right,

Tim Winders:

but then, and then there was a journey that went on from that.

Tim Winders:

I won't go into that, but it sounds like there was part of a journey.

Tim Winders:

But when I hear somebody say they started down a path and then they fell back, it

Tim Winders:

kind of makes me want to know, did they really start down the path or was it, or

Tim Winders:

were they still, and I'll go ahead and say it exactly this way, were they still

Tim Winders:

serving, trying to serve two masters, God?

Tim Winders:

And mammon and what I'm hearing and you can, and then I'll pause and you could

Tim Winders:

chime in and keep going with the story.

Tim Winders:

What I'm hearing is that you were probably trying to serve two masters.

Tim Winders:

That's not possible.

Ron Cool:

100%.

Ron Cool:

and, and I would love to say I was trying to not serve two masters.

Ron Cool:

That's just a lie.

Ron Cool:

I was serving, not God.

Ron Cool:

that's the end of the story.

Ron Cool:

and, I.

Ron Cool:

I don't like surrendering to anything.

Ron Cool:

Okay.

Ron Cool:

I just don't.

Ron Cool:

Um, and he had to break order to allow, and this is interesting.

Ron Cool:

This is, this is really interesting.

Ron Cool:

So I'm going to, I'm going to fast forward and then we can go

Ron Cool:

back or wherever you want to go.

Ron Cool:

But, he's been really telling me to get out of the book.

Ron Cool:

Okay.

Ron Cool:

And, and I'm like, all right, Lord, cause.

Ron Cool:

And when this journey started, he told me to get to know Peter, right?

Ron Cool:

And I'm like, okay, I'll just do studies on Peter and all this other stuff.

Ron Cool:

And this is three years, three and a half years ago, four years.

Ron Cool:

And, know, I shut down my business.

Ron Cool:

I really just focused on my marriage.

Ron Cool:

I focused on chasing God and really going after God.

Ron Cool:

and then whatever God said to do, I just said, yes.

Ron Cool:

So one was closing the business.

Ron Cool:

And, and that's a story we could talk about later, but, um, this whole, get to

Ron Cool:

know Peter was just resonating with me.

Ron Cool:

I was like, Oh my gosh.

Ron Cool:

So I'm reading everything.

Ron Cool:

And then the chosen TV show comes on and my family, we watch that.

Ron Cool:

We don't watch any other TV and we're watching.

Ron Cool:

And there was an argument between his wife and Peter and Peter was very arrogant.

Ron Cool:

Peter was very self centered.

Ron Cool:

Peter could do it all himself.

Ron Cool:

And I'm like, ouch.

Ron Cool:

Okay, Lord, I understand.

Ron Cool:

Okay, so then, three years later, I'm, I've grown a lot in my spiritual growth.

Ron Cool:

I'm helping out at church a lot differently, but I keep

Ron Cool:

hearing, get out of the boat.

Ron Cool:

I'm like, what is get out of the boat?

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

And, and I'm talking to Rach about it.

Ron Cool:

I'm like, all right, honey, he keeps saying, get out of the boat.

Ron Cool:

Is it a comfort boat?

Ron Cool:

What is it like?

Ron Cool:

Take the step, take the step, take the step.

Ron Cool:

Okay.

Ron Cool:

I'm going to take a step.

Ron Cool:

I don't know what that means.

Ron Cool:

but then, we watched season three episode, the last episode of the chosen

Ron Cool:

and it's when Peter stepped out of the boat and kept his eyes on him.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, okay, that's nice.

Ron Cool:

Didn't resonate.

Ron Cool:

Okay.

Ron Cool:

Okay.

Ron Cool:

It was the first time like a Peter thing didn't resonate.

Ron Cool:

So I'm in my quiet time and.

Ron Cool:

I get very clearly go watch the show again.

Ron Cool:

And I'm like, we just watched it.

Ron Cool:

So it's Friday night movie night.

Ron Cool:

We're turning on The Chosen and my oldest daughter goes, Hey, let's

Ron Cool:

just start it over until season four.

Ron Cool:

And I go, I need to watch this one again.

Ron Cool:

I know we just watched it last week and everyone's Okay, and I, Rachel knew what I

Ron Cool:

was talking about and I'm watching it and I just start and she goes, Are you okay?

Ron Cool:

I was like, no.

Ron Cool:

Like I understand, I understand what he's saying now.

Ron Cool:

Take this step and keep your eyes on me.

Ron Cool:

And I've been afraid to take a step for the last two and a half years.

Ron Cool:

I've never been patient.

Ron Cool:

It's actually freaked my wife out because I'm a doer and I've just been not doing.

Ron Cool:

and what I realized is me taking that step, I was afraid that step led back

Ron Cool:

to the old me and I didn't want that.

Ron Cool:

And he's as long as you trust me and look at me, it won't.

Tim Winders:

Real quick, it's probably not a quick answer.

Tim Winders:

What does the, what does the boat represent?

Ron Cool:

wow, that's a great question because I've, I thought I knew what it

Ron Cool:

meant where I, kind of the comfortability, I've been helping out at church doing

Ron Cool:

things there and it's okay, and this is something I'm wrestling with like

Ron Cool:

right now, does that boat mean stop doing that and do what I told you to do?

Ron Cool:

and it could be.

Ron Cool:

It could be that.

Ron Cool:

and and so that's this is, this is super fresh.

Ron Cool:

This is like a week ago, So it's I'm still processing it, but I'm starting

Ron Cool:

to really understand the step he's asking me to take is the step he asked

Ron Cool:

me to take three and a half years ago, which is really focused on men and

Ron Cool:

really focus on like the new path.

Ron Cool:

New you came from him.

Ron Cool:

I tried to argue with God about the name, not being available.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, you, you know how you reason with the, the, with

Tim Winders:

that work out?

Tim Winders:

How'd that, how'd that argument go with you?

Ron Cool:

I'll tell you how it went, I was like, God, there's no way new path.

Ron Cool:

New you is available.

Ron Cool:

that seems very logical for anyone to do and no one had it.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, that's weird.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, all right, Lord, if I'm truly supposed to do it, the URL will

Ron Cool:

be available, which it won't be like a.

Ron Cool:

com won't be available for new path.

Ron Cool:

New you.

Ron Cool:

com.

Ron Cool:

I got it for a penny, a penny.

Ron Cool:

For two years a penny and I'm like, wow, Lord.

Ron Cool:

Okay.

Ron Cool:

So then I jumped on it and then what's funny.

Ron Cool:

I've helped hundreds of people launch shows.

Ron Cool:

And my, my third thing I talk about is imposter syndrome.

Ron Cool:

Right?

Ron Cool:

And I talk about it all the time.

Ron Cool:

I've never had it ever, ever.

Ron Cool:

ever.

Ron Cool:

I've been on stages.

Ron Cool:

Uh, I've had 400 episodes of another show.

Ron Cool:

I've just never had it.

Ron Cool:

And then I'm doing this, Do a new path new you and I had it and

Ron Cool:

I was like, what are you doing?

Ron Cool:

And the voice in my head is shouldn't be, this isn't, no one will like you.

Ron Cool:

And he went and went right after everything that I've built up

Ron Cool:

since I was in seventh grade.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

And, and I stopped for just a second.

Ron Cool:

I stopped.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, no, no, no, no, no.

Ron Cool:

I got to push through this.

Ron Cool:

I got to push through it.

Ron Cool:

So then I pushed through and during that push through, I was able to

Ron Cool:

get some really cool guests on it.

Ron Cool:

So it's okay, see that wouldn't have happened.

Ron Cool:

And the enemy's trying to block those connections.

Ron Cool:

Right?

Ron Cool:

So it's, it's very interesting.

Ron Cool:

So the boat, I would love to tell you what the boat means.

Ron Cool:

I'm processing because I was offered to do something else that

Ron Cool:

I just don't feel lines up with.

Ron Cool:

What God's asking me to do.

Ron Cool:

So now it's maybe my time to get out of that boat.

Tim Winders:

I think it's fascinating.

Tim Winders:

It's a great, it's a great conversation and I think it's a

Tim Winders:

great conversation with two guys.

Tim Winders:

Women may not get this, truthfully, I don't know.

Tim Winders:

I know we have women listening in, but.

Tim Winders:

Two guys that think they know answers often.

Tim Winders:

That's our identity.

Tim Winders:

I actually circled identity again.

Tim Winders:

I wrote it and then I circled it again while you were just talking.

Tim Winders:

That's our identity.

Tim Winders:

we, we know the answer.

Tim Winders:

We know what to do.

Tim Winders:

We've got strategies.

Tim Winders:

We got plans.

Tim Winders:

We, Hey, come on.

Tim Winders:

that's, that's what we do.

Tim Winders:

And then to, to ask a fairly simple question from an

Tim Winders:

instruction, get out of the boat.

Tim Winders:

What, what is that boat?

Tim Winders:

I mean, the boat represented for Peter, that's their tool for business.

Ron Cool:

Oh,

Tim Winders:

stopped doing business?

Tim Winders:

for, for Peter, it meant comfort.

Tim Winders:

If there was a, the water was a little, we don't fish, but I mean, we

Tim Winders:

try to use, the fishermen analogies.

Tim Winders:

Is it all right?

Tim Winders:

Is it?

Tim Winders:

Something that we have confused with our identity, which I think, yes, but

Tim Winders:

something that came to me while you were talking and I'll just mention it

Tim Winders:

and then you can respond, I think it might be just get out of who you are

Tim Winders:

today to what the next step is, and, maybe we're making too much of it.

Tim Winders:

Or not enough.

Tim Winders:

I don't know, but it's, it's a, it's a good conversation.

Tim Winders:

Right.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

No.

Ron Cool:

And, and it's, it's like for this last three years, I'm

Ron Cool:

just not who I used to be.

Ron Cool:

And, I'll share a story.

Ron Cool:

So August, 2021, like my father in law, he's a deacon at a church.

Ron Cool:

we don't go to his church, but he's a deacon there.

Ron Cool:

And, like when I first met him, his, he's huge, he's a big man

Ron Cool:

and he's got this baritone, Right.

Ron Cool:

And, that's not very deep, but you understand it's God's talking to you when

Ron Cool:

this man is talking to you and his first question is, when did you meet the Lord?

Ron Cool:

And I was like, right now, right now.

Ron Cool:

And I probably need a new pair of pants.

Ron Cool:

So yeah, there's those two things.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

Cause I like, that's the first question out of his mouth.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

Anyway, fast forward.

Ron Cool:

like he obviously could tell I didn't.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

And that's why he asked the question.

Ron Cool:

Okay?

Ron Cool:

So fast forward, I, I pulled him aside.

Ron Cool:

I said, Hey, I kind of need your help with something.

Ron Cool:

Rachel and I are going to start going on some dates and I really

Ron Cool:

just need you to watch the kids.

Ron Cool:

Can you do that?

Ron Cool:

And I'd love it.

Ron Cool:

Love it to be weekly if possible.

Ron Cool:

If not, let's just pick at some times.

Ron Cool:

That's all I said to him.

Ron Cool:

His answer was the following.

Ron Cool:

Yes.

Ron Cool:

Cause I could tell you met the Lord.

Ron Cool:

I don't know what happened.

Ron Cool:

I didn't even know how to answer that.

Ron Cool:

Right?

Ron Cool:

So then I was like, okay, that's interesting.

Ron Cool:

That's interesting.

Ron Cool:

So I went in, I talked to my wife.

Ron Cool:

I was like, that was a weird answer.

Ron Cool:

It wasn't, he didn't need to say that.

Ron Cool:

Okay.

Ron Cool:

Fast forward, I'm meeting with someone that I, that used to work for me.

Ron Cool:

Okay.

Ron Cool:

And I'm, I'm having lunch and, and I was talking to her about,

Ron Cool:

she's a catering director about catering something at our church.

Ron Cool:

And she goes, Hey, can I say something?

Ron Cool:

I was like, sure.

Ron Cool:

She goes.

Ron Cool:

You kind of have the same aura of who you are, but you're just a lot nicer.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, wow, that was, that was interesting, but going back

Ron Cool:

to the thing of new you, right.

Ron Cool:

I think you're a hundred percent right.

Ron Cool:

I think the boat is get out of the comfort.

Ron Cool:

I already got out of the business.

Ron Cool:

I closed the business.

Ron Cool:

So I got out of that boat and I trusted him and he's provided.

Ron Cool:

It's amazing.

Ron Cool:

We've had that conversation before.

Ron Cool:

I've let go of who I was.

Ron Cool:

However, I never stood.

Ron Cool:

I became this person, but I never like it.

Ron Cool:

Went out with that person.

Ron Cool:

Does that make sense?

Ron Cool:

I think now he is no, go, go do now.

Tim Winders:

Yeah.

Tim Winders:

And, all of that's good.

Tim Winders:

There's a, I think if someone's listening, depending on where they are in their

Tim Winders:

journey, there might be something that may nag at them just a little bit.

Tim Winders:

It used to nag at me.

Tim Winders:

I've gotten to where I accept it, but I'm going to ask the question for, for my

Tim Winders:

benefit and maybe someone who's listening.

Tim Winders:

Why you have to close your business?

Ron Cool:

Mm.

Tim Winders:

That could be practical.

Tim Winders:

It could be spiritual.

Tim Winders:

There could be other reasons.

Tim Winders:

I mean, for us, just real quick, our journey was the business closed on its

Tim Winders:

own because it was 2008 and we were in real estate, so it was like, I wasn't

Tim Winders:

really asked to get out of the boat.

Tim Winders:

I was the boat sank.

Tim Winders:

I don't know, maybe that's not a good analogy, but there was

Tim Winders:

all of a sudden there was no boat there.

Tim Winders:

And I'm going, Oh my gosh, I gotta, I gotta walk on the lawn.

Tim Winders:

Anyway, I'll have to think about that.

Tim Winders:

That's that's never come out that way, but and maybe even be, we could go hyper

Tim Winders:

spiritual or we can go super practical for the person listening in, because

Tim Winders:

there are some people that that's something that's really going to bug them.

Tim Winders:

Why did you have to close the business?

Ron Cool:

Yeah.

Ron Cool:

So I think, I, I'll try to do a little of both, but I'll just tell the story.

Ron Cool:

Um, so my wife was a stay-at-Home Mom.

Ron Cool:

We have three kids.

Ron Cool:

Our income was this business.

Ron Cool:

Okay.

Ron Cool:

And this business was doing very well.

Ron Cool:

I mean, it was, it was doing great.

Ron Cool:

We had 45 people working for us.

Ron Cool:

it was just me and my partner, all of our clients were Christians.

Ron Cool:

And, I, I met the Lord and I was like, okay, I'm going to start just

Ron Cool:

really doing who God's called me to do all the time, not just sometimes.

Ron Cool:

So we're having this conversation with this client and she's

Ron Cool:

just having a hard time.

Ron Cool:

And I go, Hey.

Ron Cool:

I read something today and I think maybe it was for you and I just shared

Ron Cool:

the scripture with her and we started having this great conversation.

Ron Cool:

I don't even know what I said.

Ron Cool:

No idea.

Ron Cool:

And she started crying and she goes, I needed that.

Ron Cool:

I was like, cool.

Ron Cool:

Can you let me know what I told you?

Ron Cool:

Because I really don't remember.

Ron Cool:

but I didn't say that, but my partner was quiet the entire time.

Ron Cool:

And we get off the call and he's hey, I was uncomfortable with it.

Ron Cool:

I go, with what?

Ron Cool:

He's like the whole God thing.

Ron Cool:

And I said, cool, God's always going to win always, uh, found out he's, he, I

Ron Cool:

mean, I knew he was an atheist, but it be, it became very evident at that point.

Ron Cool:

So we had the conversation of, Hey, all these clients are Christian,

Ron Cool:

who do you think gave it to us?

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

and, and, at that point I

Tim Winders:

One quick thing, one quick thing, Ron, was that an intentional thing

Tim Winders:

of every, all the clients being Christian?

Tim Winders:

Did y'all market for that or did it just organically?

Ron Cool:

just organically.

Tim Winders:

Interesting.

Ron Cool:

and, and, looking back, God orchestrated all of it, you know, he's

Ron Cool:

boom, boom, boom, you can help all this.

Ron Cool:

And so I didn't give him credit for that at that point.

Ron Cool:

Anyway.

Ron Cool:

know, fast forward, I, I pause doing any new work, any new work, I stopped

Ron Cool:

it and I really just was focusing on my relationship with the Lord and my wife.

Ron Cool:

That was it.

Ron Cool:

And.

Ron Cool:

I paused the company for a year, just a year we had, we had,

Ron Cool:

everything was on autopilot anyway.

Ron Cool:

And he said, shut it down.

Ron Cool:

I was like, okay, okay.

Ron Cool:

I went downstairs, closed it, fired everybody.

Ron Cool:

None.

Ron Cool:

We were done.

Ron Cool:

It came upstairs.

Ron Cool:

They told my wife, I go, Hey, we, we, I fired everybody and I closed it.

Ron Cool:

She goes, Oh, what are we going to do?

Ron Cool:

And I go, we're going to do whatever God says And we're going to trust

Ron Cool:

him and he's going to provide.

Ron Cool:

Cause he's faithful and that's all I said, and that was three years ago.

Ron Cool:

God's been faithful and it's, it's not easy for me.

Ron Cool:

You know, I had to work out a lot of things from being my

Ron Cool:

identity as the provider, right.

Ron Cool:

To really understanding God's the provider, right.

Ron Cool:

And I'm just the steward of what he provides.

Ron Cool:

And I'm still not really good at that.

Ron Cool:

I'm working on it.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

Like I haven't arrived on any level whatsoever, and that's,

Ron Cool:

that's new for me to say anyway.

Ron Cool:

Um, I'm working at it, So I think practical, it was about obedience.

Ron Cool:

It didn't matter if it was hard or whatever.

Ron Cool:

Like he died on the cross for us.

Ron Cool:

That's hard.

Ron Cool:

That's hard work.

Ron Cool:

Me closing a company, it stunk.

Ron Cool:

Cause I love those people.

Ron Cool:

God had better plans.

Ron Cool:

And you can't get to the cooler plans or the new thing he wants

Ron Cool:

to do with old wine skins.

Ron Cool:

And that's what we just kept seeing over and over and over again.

Ron Cool:

New wine, new wine, new wine skins.

Ron Cool:

And so like right now we're in a season of preparation.

Ron Cool:

We don't even know what that means.

Ron Cool:

We're just preparing.

Ron Cool:

Is that moving?

Ron Cool:

Maybe like we're preparing the house.

Ron Cool:

We don't even know if that's what it is, but we're just preparing.

Ron Cool:

So I don't know if that answered it or not,

Tim Winders:

It does a little bit.

Tim Winders:

I might, I might ask you to get a little bit.

Tim Winders:

I don't even know if this is granular.

Tim Winders:

I don't even know, but I mean, so to, to someone would say, all right, so God told

Tim Winders:

you to, to shut down and fire 45 people.

Tim Winders:

What about those people?

Tim Winders:

You know, what, what about their role?

Tim Winders:

What about, what about the clients that, we heard their Christian clients,

Tim Winders:

how did, how did that, that seems a little harsh for some of that.

Tim Winders:

And, and, and, let's, so here's then the third part of it, you could

Tim Winders:

address, you probably went from X amount to, zero times X, unless there

Tim Winders:

were some things still built in there.

Tim Winders:

And then, Address those things too, because then I want to ask, the

Tim Winders:

next thing is, like, how is he, this is the way I word it now, because

Tim Winders:

I've been through similar things.

Tim Winders:

When someone asks me questions that are a little more logistical,

Tim Winders:

the wording that I use is, this is how he's getting resources.

Ron Cool:

yes,

Tim Winders:

To us right now.

Tim Winders:

So maybe think in terms like, and, and I don't know why.

Tim Winders:

And again, Ron, my, our, our story, people kind of want to know how, how did you go

Tim Winders:

from, seven figure businesses to homeless and bankrupt and then where you are now.

Tim Winders:

And I go, there's a story there.

Tim Winders:

Do you have time to quit?

Tim Winders:

so we got a little bit of time, I guess is the point.

Tim Winders:

so tell me about the people because there's a heart for people.

Tim Winders:

And then, maybe we went from here to here and here's what's going on now.

Ron Cool:

Yeah.

Ron Cool:

No.

Ron Cool:

So the people were easy.

Ron Cool:

I found them jobs because they were important to me.

Ron Cool:

So I had a couple of connections in the microcontent space and I found

Ron Cool:

all of them work with other companies.

Ron Cool:

So that was very simple, but I had to let them know that this

Ron Cool:

company was no longer right.

Ron Cool:

And so it worked out, it worked out great for them as for the clients.

Ron Cool:

It was just, it was a real conversation.

Ron Cool:

It was funny because none of them were upset because also my goal,

Ron Cool:

I never wanted a client to stay with me forever, ever, ever, ever.

Ron Cool:

ever.

Ron Cool:

I gave them the tools to do everything I did for them on their own.

Ron Cool:

And so no one felt high and dry, not a single person.

Ron Cool:

And, and that was as far as I'm concerned, a blessing, because I didn't, I was

Ron Cool:

still trying to please everybody.

Ron Cool:

but at the end of the day, I had to do what God was really calling me to do.

Ron Cool:

And it was not easy.

Ron Cool:

And walking away from that, especially when I'm a planner, I focus on things.

Ron Cool:

I am risk aversion.

Ron Cool:

I can plan everything to a T.

Ron Cool:

And not fail.

Ron Cool:

That's how my whole life's been, and I don't like it.

Ron Cool:

I don't like failing.

Ron Cool:

So I will plan everything to be successful.

Ron Cool:

And this was not that time.

Ron Cool:

And then, so my wife expected me to go launch something and

Ron Cool:

take off and do something new.

Ron Cool:

And I've just become patient and waited the Lord.

Ron Cool:

And so that's what I've been doing.

Ron Cool:

It kind of freaked her out.

Ron Cool:

And then resource wise to kind of touch on that.

Ron Cool:

It's very interesting how resources come.

Ron Cool:

Uh, she was.

Ron Cool:

She was offered a, staff role at the church that we didn't ask for.

Ron Cool:

We didn't talk about, and it fits what.

Ron Cool:

She's she has a degree in sociology and psychology and she's the kid's director

Ron Cool:

and makes all the sense in the world.

Ron Cool:

And, so now that did not, that did not equal equal out.

Ron Cool:

but it's, it's, it's interesting cause then we had some people go, Hey, we had a

Ron Cool:

flat tire and someone at church goes, Hey, I'm feeling called to buy you new tires.

Ron Cool:

I'm like, I, I appreciate that.

Ron Cool:

I don't need new tires.

Ron Cool:

And she, and, and he goes.

Ron Cool:

I understand that.

Ron Cool:

Just God told me to buy you tires.

Ron Cool:

So I'm buying you tires.

Ron Cool:

And here's a check.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, what, what?

Ron Cool:

My, my favorite story that I tell people, cause it makes no

Ron Cool:

sense, but I'll, I'll share it.

Ron Cool:

I was driving my wife's car cause all of our cars were paid off and I was driving

Ron Cool:

my wife's car and I was going to pick up, um, my kids where normally they would

Ron Cool:

have been in the car, but they weren't.

Ron Cool:

And at 60 miles an hour, I slammed into it, totaled her car.

Ron Cool:

Everyone was fine.

Ron Cool:

I walked out, she walked out.

Ron Cool:

She was really nice about it.

Ron Cool:

it was around Easter and, we were serving for Easter and the pastures,

Ron Cool:

my wife didn't, I'm going to give everyone something not to do.

Ron Cool:

She didn't answer my phone call.

Ron Cool:

So I just texture a picture of the car and so she instantly started crying with the

Ron Cool:

pastors and I was like, we're fine, but I heard in my voice because I was literally

Ron Cool:

an hour away from everybody I heard in my, my head call my mother in law.

Ron Cool:

I was like, that's weird.

Ron Cool:

So I called my mother in law.

Ron Cool:

She was a block away from me.

Ron Cool:

So she came and got me and yeah, God was so good at this because

Ron Cool:

that could have ended poorly for the other person or for me.

Ron Cool:

that could have ended poorly if my kids were in the car.

Ron Cool:

There could have been so many ended purely badly, right?

Ron Cool:

So then my mother in law was in a car accident a couple months prior to that

Ron Cool:

and it took him forever to get the check.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

And it was the same thing.

Ron Cool:

She hit a car, took forever.

Ron Cool:

So I was like, Oh my gosh, my mom had a, has two cars.

Ron Cool:

One, they're both new and one was just sitting around.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, Hmm, I'm going to ask my mom, mom, can I borrow your car?

Ron Cool:

Cause I just destroyed mine.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

That was kind of hard.

Ron Cool:

So she gave me her car to borrow, but I was afraid to drive it.

Ron Cool:

Cause I was like, I don't want to wreck that.

Ron Cool:

Why did I wreck my wife's car instead of my car?

Ron Cool:

it was a nicer Lexus SUV.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, what am I going to do?

Ron Cool:

So then the pastors just started praying double portion, double portion.

Ron Cool:

And I'm looking at like the Kelly blue book of my car.

Ron Cool:

And it was like 9, 000.

Ron Cool:

I was like, Oh my gosh, like I'm not going to be able to replace my wife's car.

Ron Cool:

Cause we don't like car payments.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

And I kept hearing pastors praying double portion over us, double portion.

Ron Cool:

So the insurance gets back to me Monday, four days later.

Ron Cool:

It goes, Hey, here's what the is, here's your check.

Ron Cool:

It's 18, 000.

Ron Cool:

I'm like, what?

Ron Cool:

That's awesome.

Ron Cool:

That's a double portion, right?

Ron Cool:

Not realizing how the used car market was, everything was so expensive and it

Ron Cool:

was a worse vehicle than what she had.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, what am I going to do?

Ron Cool:

And I asked my wife, I go, what color car do you want?

Ron Cool:

And she goes, I don't care, just don't spend more.

Ron Cool:

And I go, cool, can you just tell me the color car you want?

Ron Cool:

And she goes, fine, pearl white.

Ron Cool:

And I go, that was oddly specific, right?

Ron Cool:

I was like, oddly specific.

Ron Cool:

So I'm talking to her dad, who also works in the car business, and he's laughing.

Ron Cool:

He goes, you know what color it won't be.

Ron Cool:

I said, absolutely.

Ron Cool:

I know what color it's not going to be.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

And I go, I can't even find a car that matches.

Ron Cool:

What we want in the lower mileage that we had because we have a low mileage and

Ron Cool:

It's not gonna be as nice and so we're looking and we couldn't find anything.

Ron Cool:

We couldn't find anything.

Ron Cool:

We're gonna settle So I was talking to my mom.

Ron Cool:

She goes I go.

Ron Cool:

Hey mom because you know how the insurance does they give you X amount?

Ron Cool:

they give you X amount until they get the title and then

Ron Cool:

they give you the rest and I go.

Ron Cool:

Hey mom I found this This car.

Ron Cool:

it kind of works, kind of works.

Ron Cool:

And she goes, where's it at?

Ron Cool:

And I go, I don't know.

Ron Cool:

One of those rinky dink deal dealers on, on Broadway.

Ron Cool:

She goes, no, because I needed like the X amount of money.

Ron Cool:

And then I was just going to pay her back when I got the insurance.

Ron Cool:

And she goes, no, just go back to Lexus.

Ron Cool:

And I go, mom, they don't have something at Lexus that fits what I need.

Ron Cool:

And she goes, what are you looking for?

Ron Cool:

And I go, mom, I just want the same kind of car.

Ron Cool:

Like I don't want anything.

Ron Cool:

And she goes, what color does Rachel want?

Ron Cool:

And I go.

Ron Cool:

She ironically said Pearl White, but said no big deal, right?

Ron Cool:

And I go, Mom, there's not going to be anything.

Ron Cool:

She goes, did you check this other Lexus that was like two hours away?

Ron Cool:

And ironically, they had a Pearl White Lexus SUV that was newer,

Ron Cool:

less miles than what she had.

Ron Cool:

And it was double the amount of what I had.

Ron Cool:

And I go, okay, Mom, this is the only thing they have.

Ron Cool:

So I'm not going to do it.

Ron Cool:

And she goes, I'll pay for it.

Ron Cool:

Go get it.

Ron Cool:

I was like, I'm sorry.

Ron Cool:

What?

Ron Cool:

And, and my father in law was praying for God to do exceedingly abundantly

Ron Cool:

more than you could ever ask.

Ron Cool:

Right?

Ron Cool:

So I call my, my wife and I go, Hey, my mom just said this and she goes, no.

Ron Cool:

And I go, yeah, it's kind of where I was like, that's a lot, so I

Ron Cool:

was talking to my father in law and telling him the whole story.

Ron Cool:

He goes, timeout.

Ron Cool:

We literally just prayed.

Ron Cool:

For God to do exceedingly more than you could ever ask.

Ron Cool:

So now you need to decide, is your pride going to get in the way?

Ron Cool:

Are you going to accept the blessing?

Ron Cool:

I was like, ouch.

Ron Cool:

Okay.

Ron Cool:

So I call my wife, I go, I'm going to go pick up your car.

Ron Cool:

I'll see you in a minute.

Ron Cool:

So I call this dealer and I go.

Ron Cool:

I'm coming from two hours away.

Ron Cool:

Do not bait and switch me.

Ron Cool:

I want this car.

Ron Cool:

Do not sell it.

Ron Cool:

Like I'm paying cash.

Ron Cool:

And he goes, I put sold on it.

Ron Cool:

I said, okay, if I come like, and it's gone, I'm really angry.

Ron Cool:

And so I get there and there's my salesman and this couple arguing about the car.

Ron Cool:

I'm like, Oh, what's going on?

Ron Cool:

And he goes, I come out, I go, Hey, what, what's up?

Ron Cool:

And he goes, funny story.

Ron Cool:

I go, I'm sure it is.

Ron Cool:

I'm sure it is.

Ron Cool:

And he goes, right when you called and said you wanted this

Ron Cool:

car, their deal fell through.

Ron Cool:

And then I put it on hold.

Ron Cool:

They went to the bank, figured out there was a mistake, came back to try to buy it.

Ron Cool:

And now it was sold out from under them.

Ron Cool:

And I said, that was just a God thing.

Ron Cool:

So thank you.

Ron Cool:

I'm really sorry.

Ron Cool:

And then they ended up getting a different car.

Ron Cool:

But it was, it was just crazy how all of that works.

Ron Cool:

So talking about, God gives resources from unexplained places before I

Ron Cool:

would have said, I figured that out.

Ron Cool:

what my mom did.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

Old Ron, that would have been the answers.

Ron Cool:

New Ron, all glory to God, all glory.

Ron Cool:

There's, there was a double upon double blessing that.

Ron Cool:

I can't explain except for only God, only God could have taken a 9, 000

Ron Cool:

car and turned it into a 50, 000.

Ron Cool:

Only God.

Tim Winders:

So one thing, Ron, that's interesting, there's two things

Tim Winders:

that I picked up from that story.

Tim Winders:

One, I'll get to in just a second, but with, with new With new path, new you,

Tim Winders:

and with what you're doing in ministry.

Tim Winders:

And it seems like it's where it seems like it might be the boat you're in currently.

Tim Winders:

I'll say it that way.

Tim Winders:

How about that?

Tim Winders:

We'll start, we'll start using the right language here.

Tim Winders:

So the boat you're in currently is obviously, communicating to men,

Tim Winders:

helping men, maybe that, that were in a place like where you were to where

Tim Winders:

you are now, not that you've got all the answers or anything like that.

Tim Winders:

I think that's a powerful transition that many of us, I think, will continue

Tim Winders:

to have to make, and that is, we used to think we knew it all the longer we lived,

Tim Winders:

the less and less we recognized, but you brought up earlier that, you wanted to be

Tim Winders:

the provider that was important for you when we were talking about your company.

Ron Cool:

Yes.

Tim Winders:

think when we're talking about, putting our, our, our wife

Tim Winders:

and kids in a car many times, that's.

Tim Winders:

Important badge of honor for us to say, it's got, good

Tim Winders:

car, solid, safe, good tires.

Tim Winders:

You've talked about tires.

Tim Winders:

You've talked about all these things here.

Tim Winders:

So in, in the interaction that you've had with men, since you've been called to

Tim Winders:

work with men, what do they need to know about the process of moving from the,

Tim Winders:

if it is to be, it's up to me, I've got to provide, which there is, there is a.

Tim Winders:

Scripture for that.

Tim Winders:

I think the scripture can be twisted often and that is you're worse than an

Tim Winders:

infidel if you don't provide I think it's anyway, I won't go into it How are what

Tim Winders:

are you seeing with men you interact with?

Tim Winders:

I know you lead groups and stuff like that with all the talking you're doing And

Tim Winders:

moving from where you did to to that place where they could allow something like

Tim Winders:

you just shared with that story To happen help us connect the dots with whatever.

Tim Winders:

I mean i'm kind of throwing you a big wide net here to take it Wherever

Tim Winders:

you want to does that make sense?

Ron Cool:

Yeah, no, it's good.

Ron Cool:

And, and rein me in if you want.

Ron Cool:

so I think there's two things that, that men have to do.

Ron Cool:

There's three, they have to really surrender.

Ron Cool:

They really have to surrender.

Ron Cool:

Right?

Ron Cool:

Yeah, exactly.

Ron Cool:

And none of us want to do that.

Ron Cool:

Like at the end of the day, none of us want to do it.

Ron Cool:

And then the two prayers, Craig Rochelle, has dangerous prayer book.

Ron Cool:

and it's about, Seek, seek my heart, seek me, look, search me.

Ron Cool:

Is there something within me that is not pleasing for you and break it?

Ron Cool:

And that's, that's the last thing you have to be broken.

Ron Cool:

And what?

Ron Cool:

And it's funny because I'm helping a guy right now who he had a 35 million company

Ron Cool:

that just got snatched and lost it all.

Ron Cool:

And I'm like, look, man, you were about to buy a jet.

Ron Cool:

So you tell me what you were chasing.

Ron Cool:

Were you chasing God or were you chasing fame?

Ron Cool:

And, and it's funny because my daughter was on stage this

Ron Cool:

last, Sunday and she's seven.

Ron Cool:

She's seven, but she was on stage.

Ron Cool:

They were doing this vision thing with kids and she was up there writing notes.

Ron Cool:

And I literally thought she was drawing.

Ron Cool:

She was taking sermon notes at seven and wrote yes to chasing

Ron Cool:

God, no to chasing fame.

Ron Cool:

I was like, wow, that was a message to me.

Ron Cool:

And the reason I know it was a message to me because underneath it, she wrote.

Ron Cool:

N P N Y.

Ron Cool:

I was like, what is that?

Ron Cool:

And she goes, new path.

Ron Cool:

New you daddy.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, Oh, wow.

Ron Cool:

Talking about, I don't talk about my podcast to my Children.

Ron Cool:

I don't like it blew my mind.

Ron Cool:

She even knew.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, telling this guy, go look, God talks through

Ron Cool:

your Children all the time.

Ron Cool:

And if you choose to pay attention and then act on it, I said, but for you,

Ron Cool:

you're starting out, you're, you're not willing to forgive yourself for

Ron Cool:

losing the company and you're not surrendering yourself to God's will.

Ron Cool:

And you're trying to figure it out all by yourself.

Ron Cool:

And if you don't let go of all of that, you're just going to be stuck or you're

Ron Cool:

going to find yourself repeating the same thing over and over again, which I did.

Ron Cool:

it's funny because I would always find myself in the same situations.

Ron Cool:

I was like, how does that even happen, right?

Ron Cool:

It's because I didn't learn.

Ron Cool:

But, for, for the question, I think the biggest thing is men have to be

Ron Cool:

broken and then surrender to God's will.

Ron Cool:

And that's, that's more than just saying it.

Ron Cool:

That's more than anything.

Ron Cool:

I asked my wife, when did you think I would go back to being who I used to be?

Ron Cool:

Because she, she shared with me, she goes, I stopped praying that you would change.

Ron Cool:

And that was painful to hear, right?

Ron Cool:

And then we have to reprioritize our life.

Ron Cool:

You have to chase God, you have to like equal with your

Ron Cool:

wife and you have to chase her.

Ron Cool:

Like everyone, we all chased our wife when we were trying to get married, right?

Ron Cool:

Or date her.

Ron Cool:

And then once, once we got married, like I love her to

Ron Cool:

death, but I stopped pursuing her.

Ron Cool:

I didn't feel I needed to pursue her.

Ron Cool:

And God, God said to me, just because you're happy doesn't mean she is.

Ron Cool:

That was painful.

Ron Cool:

Like all of it.

Ron Cool:

It was the most painful experience I've ever had.

Ron Cool:

but I had to be broken.

Ron Cool:

And like I told my friend, I was like, look, the enemy came after your

Ron Cool:

identity, which was this business.

Ron Cool:

And God let that happen because your identity was in the wrong spot.

Ron Cool:

And until your identity is in the right spot, you're going to have a crack

Ron Cool:

and the enemy is going to exploit it.

Tim Winders:

so one thing that's interesting, you mentioned surrender

Tim Winders:

first and I went, Oh, that's good.

Tim Winders:

That's good.

Tim Winders:

But then you mentioned you got to be broken last.

Tim Winders:

And unfortunately that order seems to go broken, then surrender.

Tim Winders:

At least it did for me.

Tim Winders:

It seems like your journey may have been, and maybe it's men that way.

Tim Winders:

I, and, and, and, we hate to generalize, but women are different.

Tim Winders:

It's a different thing.

Tim Winders:

They seem to be more humble, surrender, they're the ones that lead

Tim Winders:

us into, spiritual walk and, and, sometimes it's kicking and screaming.

Tim Winders:

Sometimes it's, whatever, but that's interesting.

Tim Winders:

so my question, and it's, it's a trick question.

Ron Cool:

Sure.

Ron Cool:

Sure.

Tim Winders:

there is no answer to, but I'm going to ask it anyway.

Tim Winders:

Is it possible to reverse the order and surrender first so

Tim Winders:

that we don't have to be broken?

Ron Cool:

Yeah.

Ron Cool:

so here's, here's why I say it this way.

Ron Cool:

Okay.

Ron Cool:

Cause surrender is you have to be open to the idea of giving control up.

Ron Cool:

Once you're able to give control up in your mind, you're not there.

Ron Cool:

Like you haven't truly surrendered.

Ron Cool:

Until you're broken,

Tim Winders:

that might be the step out of the boat, right?

Tim Winders:

Are we going back to step out of the boat?

Ron Cool:

We are stepping out of the boat, right?

Ron Cool:

So we, we, we have to trust in God and we have to surrender, right?

Ron Cool:

But he wants a step first.

Ron Cool:

Your step is the mind.

Ron Cool:

Your mind is going to say, okay, yeah, I'm going to do that.

Ron Cool:

Right?

Ron Cool:

Then, then you can ask God to show you what needs to be broken.

Ron Cool:

Because what you think needs to be broken might not be what God's trying to break.

Ron Cool:

It might be that, but it might be a lot more other things that stink that you

Ron Cool:

don't want to give surrender to like you can have all of this little area over

Ron Cool:

here, Lord, but you can't have this.

Ron Cool:

This is mine stuff to this is this is who I am.

Ron Cool:

He wants all of that broken, and and when I, when I shared this with him,

Ron Cool:

I was like, do you surrender to him?

Ron Cool:

And he's yeah, I go, do you do you?

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

And then he's yeah.

Ron Cool:

And I go, Hey, let's talk about it.

Ron Cool:

So as we're talking, he, and this is not anything I'm doing or

Ron Cool:

saying or anything, but you could tell God's working in his head.

Ron Cool:

Cause then by the end of the conversation, he's crying and

Ron Cool:

he's a, he's a manly man, right?

Ron Cool:

that took me off that he was there, but I was like, all right, Lord,

Ron Cool:

you, you did something right.

Ron Cool:

And even yesterday I checked with him and I was like, ask him to break you.

Ron Cool:

It's hard.

Ron Cool:

And then when he breaks you, resurrender, resurrender, but it starts with, you have

Ron Cool:

to be okay with the process, you know,

Tim Winders:

I, one of the things I do, I've shared this often, is that

Tim Winders:

I'll listen to the Sermon on the Mount.

Tim Winders:

audibly many times.

Tim Winders:

I've done it almost every morning for the last three, four years.

Tim Winders:

And at the very end of the, what we call the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew seven,

Tim Winders:

there's this, I'll call it the clincher where Jesus says, there's two people,

Tim Winders:

this is my version of it, and there's basically two people that there's the

Tim Winders:

one that listens to me, and then the one, the one that doesn't, and the one that

Tim Winders:

doesn't, the rains come, the floods come, and the house that's built on sand washes

Tim Winders:

away, and then the one that listens and heeds my voice, the rains come, the floods

Tim Winders:

come, and something just recently, I've listened to it over and over again, the

Tim Winders:

rains come and the floods come regardless.

Tim Winders:

because

Ron Cool:

Yeah.

Ron Cool:

Either way you're getting, you're going through

Tim Winders:

many, many times what we'll try to do is say, Oh, this

Tim Winders:

it's the enemy or it's this or that.

Tim Winders:

No, the rains and the floods and the sunshine, earlier in the Sermon on

Tim Winders:

the Mount, there's the sun shines on the just and the unjust, it's like

Tim Winders:

that those are life is going to happen is what are we going to deal with?

Tim Winders:

I love your example with this guy you're talking about, because for

Tim Winders:

me, I never had a great deal of.

Tim Winders:

Shame that entered into my being and who I was, but because my entire identity

Tim Winders:

was I'm successful in business, I do well, we've raised money, all that

Tim Winders:

kind of stuff, and all of a sudden now we're homeless and bankrupt, it's

Tim Winders:

I'm dealing with something I haven't dealt with before, which is shame.

Tim Winders:

And so I I've come to terms that this surrender, the surrender, broken

Tim Winders:

surrender, broken is not an event.

Tim Winders:

It's a process.

Tim Winders:

And part of our, what this word is big word that we use called sanctification.

Tim Winders:

No one can totally explain it, that that's Tim's sanctification, Ron's sanctification

Tim Winders:

right now is having everything burned and scraped and, and, taken away that is

Tim Winders:

world system so that we are preparing for that kingdom of God for all of eternity.

Tim Winders:

And, and that's the, I don't want to just punch my ticket, which

Tim Winders:

is what a lot of us think we do.

Tim Winders:

We just punch our salvation ticket.

Tim Winders:

We're good.

Tim Winders:

And we can just keep doing all this other stuff, whatever the other stuff is.

Tim Winders:

And you and I, we had to purge a lot of this mammon business

Tim Winders:

success, stuff like that.

Tim Winders:

So anyway, all right, that's my preach, my rant.

Tim Winders:

There's another practical thing.

Tim Winders:

And then I want us to talk about new path, new you, as we wrap up here.

Tim Winders:

heard you say, I, I've tried to keep a count, but it was probably

Tim Winders:

at least five or six times.

Tim Winders:

I may be off a little bit.

Tim Winders:

Something to the effect of God told me or God said, or I heard God say, and I

Tim Winders:

know Ron, there are people that are right now going, I don't hear God's voice.

Ron Cool:

Oh

Tim Winders:

that happen?

Tim Winders:

he was still, he was still a little bit messed up and he

Tim Winders:

said he heard God's voice.

Tim Winders:

You got to be, this is some people saying this, you got to be perfect

Tim Winders:

before you even go before the Lord.

Tim Winders:

So talk a little bit about that topic of.

Tim Winders:

Hearing from God and maybe just personally, what was your journey?

Tim Winders:

How have you come to it?

Tim Winders:

Are you 110 percent confident that's God's voice or

Ron Cool:

Yeah.

Tim Winders:

so?

Tim Winders:

All right.

Tim Winders:

That's our last teaching topic.

Tim Winders:

Then we're going to talk about a few practical things so

Tim Winders:

people can connect with you.

Ron Cool:

Sure.

Ron Cool:

No, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll give a story because my daughter

Ron Cool:

asked, This exact question.

Ron Cool:

How do you hear from God?

Ron Cool:

And I hear from God a lot of different ways.

Ron Cool:

and I was like, here's, here's one way you can do it.

Ron Cool:

grab your Bible because it is words living.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

And just ask a question out loud.

Ron Cool:

Just let's ask God a question.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

And she's 10 and she's asking God a question.

Ron Cool:

I was like, all right, Lord, this is your time.

Ron Cool:

I've never said genie time, but it's my daughter, can we just start her

Ron Cool:

relationship in a really cool way?

Ron Cool:

So she asks a question and she said a word and what's awful is I can't remember

Ron Cool:

the word It wasn't like something that was readily in every Bible page

Ron Cool:

Let's just say that right and it was part of her question and I go, okay.

Ron Cool:

Sometimes, honey, this is what I do.

Ron Cool:

I'll pray and then I'll open the Bible to wherever I said.

Ron Cool:

So just open the Bible where you feel God's leading you to open the Bible.

Ron Cool:

And so she opened it and she was drawn to this section of the Bible

Ron Cool:

and it was her word that she said.

Ron Cool:

She goes, Oh, that's the word.

Ron Cool:

I said, let's, let's read the story.

Ron Cool:

And it literally answered her question.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, how cool is that?

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

And I thanked God right then.

Ron Cool:

I said, let's thank him.

Ron Cool:

And so then she was like, Hmm, I go.

Ron Cool:

And now sometimes it's.

Ron Cool:

I'll just turn somewhere else to see if there's something else.

Ron Cool:

And I go, is there anywhere else you feel you need to turn?

Ron Cool:

So she turns and there was the word again, right?

Ron Cool:

And I was like, Oh, thank you, Lord.

Ron Cool:

Thank you, Lord.

Ron Cool:

so I, I hear God through his word.

Ron Cool:

Okay, but if I'm like, I prayed a lot to hear God's, let me rephrase that.

Ron Cool:

I prayed a lot to hear the enemy's voice because the enemy whispers.

Ron Cool:

And then when you say it, it becomes your voice.

Ron Cool:

So I'm downstairs one day and I kept hearing your wife doesn't need you.

Ron Cool:

She's fine.

Ron Cool:

But first time ever, it was not my voice.

Ron Cool:

I was stoked.

Ron Cool:

I was so excited.

Ron Cool:

I jumped up, ran upstairs, gave my wife a hug and she goes, I needed that.

Ron Cool:

I said, I know, I know you needed that because I heard a voice that wasn't right.

Ron Cool:

So when it comes to, Like God, like I'll see things and all this other stuff, but

Ron Cool:

if you think about it, even Paul on the road to Damascus, he was not perfect.

Ron Cool:

He was not a good guy.

Ron Cool:

And there was Jesus, right?

Ron Cool:

and Peter, not, not the best of guys.

Ron Cool:

Jesus called him and I think if you're open to the calling and

Ron Cool:

you really listen, God touches you in a lot of different ways.

Ron Cool:

It could be a gut feeling.

Ron Cool:

It could be his word.

Ron Cool:

I mean, his, his word tells, I mean, it's a living word.

Ron Cool:

Um, it could be a small little voice.

Ron Cool:

I mean, if you think about it, all the storms in the Bible, it

Ron Cool:

was a quiet voice that calmed it.

Ron Cool:

So if it's a loud, crazy voice, that's probably not enough.

Ron Cool:

If it's a quiet, quiet

Ron Cool:

voice and it's just nagging and it's, it's pushing you forward.

Ron Cool:

how I look at it is if the voice is pushing me forward, That could be from

Ron Cool:

God, but I, I, I have a really cool way of discerning stuff, but if the voice

Ron Cool:

is pushing backwards or look back, look back at the shame, that's not God.

Ron Cool:

That's the enemy not wanting you to move forward and that's it.

Tim Winders:

How important, how important is it?

Tim Winders:

This is, this is, this is my last question.

Tim Winders:

important is it for people that are, you use the word workaholic at the beginning.

Tim Winders:

I'm sure with the level of responsibility you had in your

Tim Winders:

company and all that, there was a lot of phone calls, a lot going on.

Tim Winders:

You probably had at least one phone.

Tim Winders:

How important is it To be still and quiet for you.

Tim Winders:

I mean, some people say they can hear God and they're going at it.

Tim Winders:

I can't, I've tried enough fool to myself.

Tim Winders:

I think before, I think that's where a lot of other voices and things come at

Tim Winders:

me, but I have got to be still and quiet.

Tim Winders:

How about you?

Ron Cool:

going back to what you just said about being, kind

Ron Cool:

of tricked or fooling yourself.

Ron Cool:

Rachel and I would try to have God time at night.

Ron Cool:

you're tired at night.

Ron Cool:

What's the first thing that doesn't happen?

Ron Cool:

God, God doesn't, God doesn't want your leftovers.

Ron Cool:

He wants to be first.

Ron Cool:

So we said, all right, Lord, we're going to, this is three and a half

Ron Cool:

years ago and we do it every day.

Ron Cool:

Now we're going to start our day with you.

Ron Cool:

However long it is, we're going to start the day.

Ron Cool:

And Friday, we we Sabbath really hard on Fridays.

Ron Cool:

We disconnect from phone.

Ron Cool:

We disconnect everything.

Ron Cool:

Um, I've actually transitioned my driving, focus on my phone where if you text me

Ron Cool:

on Friday, it says I'm sabbathing today and I, there's no tech in my life today.

Ron Cool:

So I'm not responding to you, And so I use that, but that was, that

Ron Cool:

was a journey in itself as well.

Ron Cool:

But it's, it's, it's hyper important to spend time with God.

Ron Cool:

So you get to know him and just like any friend, any relationship.

Ron Cool:

It was funny because I was spending time with God, Friday and I was laughing and

Ron Cool:

it was like I was joking with him and it was the craziest thing because I have

Ron Cool:

never been in that type of moment and I was telling my wife because that's

Ron Cool:

the other piece that's important.

Ron Cool:

We share what God's telling us and it's funny because

Ron Cool:

sometimes we'll do it together.

Ron Cool:

Sometimes we do it separately.

Ron Cool:

It kind of depends on the feeling, but almost all the time they intercede.

Ron Cool:

It's really cool and it's not like we're doing the same, but it was the first time

Ron Cool:

that I was like joking with him like as a friend and I was laughing out loud and

Ron Cool:

I was like, Oh my gosh, that was weird.

Ron Cool:

That was cool.

Ron Cool:

Right?

Ron Cool:

But he's, he's a friend.

Ron Cool:

He's a friend, but you have to spend time with him to understand his voice.

Ron Cool:

Jesus.

Ron Cool:

Jesus said the sheep know my voice.

Ron Cool:

My people know my voice.

Ron Cool:

You'll know the voice if you spend time with.

Tim Winders:

Yeah, going back to the marriage example you used earlier,

Tim Winders:

if you were to have Married Rachel, committed to her and then said, okay,

Tim Winders:

I'm going to go do other things.

Tim Winders:

We're not going to have communication.

Tim Winders:

We're not going to have intimacy.

Tim Winders:

We're not going to do anything together until we die.

Tim Winders:

That's the relationship.

Tim Winders:

A lot of people try with God.

Tim Winders:

They, they punch

Ron Cool:

So good.

Ron Cool:

Yeah.

Tim Winders:

and then they just say, we're, we're not going to

Tim Winders:

do any of the good stuff, the fun stuff, the hard stuff too.

Tim Winders:

And so we have to build it.

Tim Winders:

How long have you been married, Ron?

Tim Winders:

12

Ron Cool:

almost 12 years.

Tim Winders:

years.

Ron Cool:

We're babies.

Tim Winders:

just celebrated 35.

Tim Winders:

And I want to tell you that one of the things my wife, Gloria and I do,

Tim Winders:

and we've done it now for going on close to, let's see, when was that?

Tim Winders:

Oh, eight.

Tim Winders:

I mean, gosh, 15, 17 years is spend a lot of quiet.

Tim Winders:

We schedule nothing early.

Tim Winders:

And it's usually coffee.

Tim Winders:

It's usually, something spiritual, something scriptural.

Tim Winders:

Sometimes it's practical because you need to do that stuff too, but it

Tim Winders:

is typically heavy duty spiritual.

Tim Winders:

Hey, what are you getting from the Lord?

Tim Winders:

Oh, I'm getting that too.

Tim Winders:

How about that?

Tim Winders:

And and there are times when we were going through some tough times where

Tim Winders:

it was four, five, six hours a day.

Tim Winders:

And so anyway, that is, that is really cool.

Tim Winders:

And we just, I think I said this, we 35 years, we're, we're like,

Tim Winders:

we're, we're just getting started.

Tim Winders:

so anyway, all right, so we could keep talking, but new path, new

Tim Winders:

you is that name that you got for, a penny and, and, and so obviously

Tim Winders:

there was something going on there.

Tim Winders:

Tell us what it is and, and how people, what's going on there and

Tim Winders:

why people need to connect with it.

Tim Winders:

And then I've got one more question before we wrap up.

Ron Cool:

Sure.

Ron Cool:

And before I do that, you said something that is important that I want to touch

Ron Cool:

on, especially for men, like, um, Bible prayer times in my calendar,

Ron Cool:

you can calendar what's important.

Ron Cool:

So you don't schedule things early because it affects that.

Ron Cool:

So if you want to create a relationship and it, consistency calendar.

Ron Cool:

It's super easy.

Ron Cool:

Just do it.

Ron Cool:

Especially business guys, right.

Ron Cool:

Just calendar it.

Tim Winders:

and then also turn off the ringers, notifications,

Tim Winders:

all this stuff that they want.

Tim Winders:

I don't have any sounds come from my phone because when I sit with someone like we're

Tim Winders:

doing here, I want to be focused on Ron.

Tim Winders:

When I sit with my wife, I need to be focused on my wife.

Tim Winders:

all right, new path, new you tell us about it and what's going on.

Ron Cool:

it's, it started off as a podcast.

Ron Cool:

it's, it's to help men on a spiritual journey and what

Ron Cool:

I've learned about podcasting.

Ron Cool:

You know, here's the journey you were on.

Ron Cool:

You're reaching down and helping this person down here on the same journey.

Ron Cool:

And that's what that, that's what it's about.

Ron Cool:

It's, it's a, it's a real raw journey.

Ron Cool:

I don't even use my microphone.

Ron Cool:

It's funny.

Ron Cool:

Cause everyone's like, why aren't you using your mic?

Ron Cool:

I was like, cause I just want it to be real.

Ron Cool:

Like I'm just talking in my phone sometimes.

Ron Cool:

it's, it's 15, 20 minutes.

Ron Cool:

They're quick bites.

Ron Cool:

I have some cool guests on it.

Ron Cool:

Um, and it's just.

Ron Cool:

Really, whatever God puts on my heart, that's it.

Ron Cool:

And that's what that's about.

Ron Cool:

Now it's transitioning a little bit where, God was really telling me,

Ron Cool:

step out, step out of the boat, right?

Ron Cool:

And, and maybe get into helping people launch podcasts that are

Ron Cool:

Christians, really focus on that.

Ron Cool:

So I started focusing on men because that was my thing.

Ron Cool:

And ironically, God's funny.

Ron Cool:

God is funny.

Ron Cool:

He gives me.

Ron Cool:

Women, right?

Ron Cool:

It's, it's crazy.

Ron Cool:

There was this, there's these two women that it's like, Hey, I've

Ron Cool:

been talking to her for a while.

Ron Cool:

She goes, my shirt.

Ron Cool:

She goes, I want to start a podcast.

Ron Cool:

It's called the mind table talk.

Ron Cool:

They, I helped her launch.

Ron Cool:

They hit number one.

Ron Cool:

They've been number one for a week and a half.

Ron Cool:

They were, it's amazing.

Ron Cool:

We launched her book career, like doing a lot of cool things.

Ron Cool:

Then I get, I redo my website around helping men.

Ron Cool:

It's literally helping men and I have this woman reach out to me and she goes, Hey,

Ron Cool:

I was praying and God told me to renew my mind, which is my podcast verse, right?

Ron Cool:

Romans 12 to and I googled top Christian coach and you came up.

Ron Cool:

So I would like you to coach me.

Ron Cool:

I was like, let's, let's talk because that's super interesting.

Ron Cool:

And we were talking and I was like, what do you want to do?

Ron Cool:

Yeah.

Ron Cool:

And she has an amazing story.

Ron Cool:

And I was like, wow, Lord, am I supposed to just help anybody that's Christian?

Ron Cool:

I, I don't understand.

Ron Cool:

But then looking back at my clientele from before, guess what?

Ron Cool:

Most of them were Christian women.

Ron Cool:

So now it's okay, I'm just going to really just, however, to help get God's

Ron Cool:

message out, that's what I'm focused on,

Tim Winders:

one quick thing there.

Tim Winders:

We'll say this and then move along.

Tim Winders:

Women are willing to ask for, for help.

Tim Winders:

Most men won't ask for, I mean, it could be that.

Ron Cool:

That's true.

Ron Cool:

That is so funny.

Ron Cool:

Yeah, no.

Ron Cool:

I, I just relaunched my website.

Ron Cool:

I just got season three going for a new path.

Ron Cool:

New you, and it's, it's funny because I'm getting a lot of people that show

Ron Cool:

took off faster than my other show and I didn't expect that, you know?

Ron Cool:

and it's interesting because it's a vulnerable show and, I share my story.

Ron Cool:

I share my testimony in that.

Ron Cool:

I shared my struggles.

Ron Cool:

And it's just kind of like how I look at it is like when I'm not

Ron Cool:

around, my kids can listen to that and go, that's who dad was.

Ron Cool:

That's who dad was.

Ron Cool:

That's what I want it to be.

Ron Cool:

And, and I know, because God is amazing.

Ron Cool:

It will hit people and help people.

Ron Cool:

because that's what testimonies do.

Ron Cool:

And the hard, you have to have the hard, you have to have the, the storm

Ron Cool:

or your testimony is not as cool.

Ron Cool:

It's not as relatable.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Tim Winders:

Yeah, that's good.

Tim Winders:

Ron, tell everybody where they can find anything else.

Tim Winders:

I know, we can probably guess the domain that you were able to get, but

Tim Winders:

go ahead and give it here just for those folks that might be cruising around.

Tim Winders:

And then, and then what we're going to recommend is people maybe jump

Tim Winders:

over there right when they leave here, if they're on the podcast platform.

Tim Winders:

And so where all can they find you if someone needs

Tim Winders:

Ron, where do they need to go?

Ron Cool:

new path.

Ron Cool:

New you.

Ron Cool:

com.

Ron Cool:

I mean, that's the easiest one.

Ron Cool:

I love Instagram.

Ron Cool:

it's our cool junior.

Ron Cool:

Um, but it's, it's a different story.

Ron Cool:

So probably my, my website cause God's actually having me possibly closed down

Ron Cool:

my Instagram and that's really hard.

Tim Winders:

Whew, that's a whole nother topic for another day, this

Tim Winders:

social media, because, because you mentioned micro content and that's

Tim Winders:

where all that stuff lives on

Ron Cool:

No.

Tim Winders:

Instagrams and stuff.

Tim Winders:

So anyway, we're going to pause that because that's

Tim Winders:

probably a long conversation

Tim Winders:

and I'm going to wrap, I'm going to wrap up with, with my

Tim Winders:

question that I summarized with.

Tim Winders:

We're Go create those three words.

Tim Winders:

We mashed together for our podcast.

Tim Winders:

You can only choose one.

Tim Winders:

I'm either going to allow you or force you to only choose one.

Tim Winders:

Which word do you choose that resonates or whatever?

Tim Winders:

Don't, don't overthink it.

Tim Winders:

And why?

Ron Cool:

Seek.

Ron Cool:

Seek.

Ron Cool:

Seek the kingdom of God first.

Ron Cool:

Right.

Ron Cool:

And you have it first in your title.

Ron Cool:

And I don't think that's on accident.

Ron Cool:

and, and seek because if you seek God first, everything else falls in line.

Ron Cool:

if your relationship, the vertical relationship is right, all the, all

Ron Cool:

these other relationships are good.

Ron Cool:

So seek.

Tim Winders:

Amen.

Tim Winders:

Yeah.

Tim Winders:

There's a reason it's first and that Matthew 6 33 is a foundational

Tim Winders:

scripture for my journey.

Tim Winders:

Hey, listen, make sure you go check out new path, new you.

Tim Winders:

If you're on your podcast platform right now, just as soon as

Tim Winders:

we're done, Go over and follow.

Tim Winders:

Tim Winders:

Tim Winders:

Tim Winders:

I've burned through a number over the last few weeks and, it's, it's cool.

Tim Winders:

Tim Winders:

Tim Winders:
